Find Great Freelance Work on Elance

elance-freelancers

Many of my fans have demanded more information about freelance work from home.  So, I thought it would be a great idea to talk about Elance - a site where you can sign up and get paid for doing almost any type of freelance work.

How does it work?

It’s easy to sign up.  You don’t need to wait to be approved to work on their site.  You just need to create an account. Once you have signed up for their website, you will see three membership options: the first option is free and the other two require payment.  If you are not familiar with the site, you should probably start off with their free version first to get a feel of the website.  It’s similar to other freelance websites like oDesk and Guru.  It’s great to pay for extra features if you are familiar with freelance work online and if you are going to be on the website constantly. The benefits of paying for extra features include your profile getting placed higher in their search results for prospective employers to find you and getting the option to add your profile to more categories.

What happens after I sign up?

Once you have signed up, you will create your worker portfolio.  It is imperative that you create an awesome profile. You want it to be attractive to prospective employers as well as stand out among the other freelance workers.  Please add a resume which will allow prospective employers to see your past work with other clients, personal information about yourself and areas of expertise.  This will help you get more job requests.

How do I get work?

There are two ways to find freelance work on Elance: the first way is to bid on jobs.  The other way is to wait for employers to contact you.

Types of Work Available

Almost anything!  You will find a lot of work requests for IT, web & mobile work, writing, project management, marketing & sales, translators, design & multimedia and office & admissions.  However, there’s also data science, legal, engineering and arch., customer service and so on.  Right now, there are a lot of requests for the jobs that I just named above.  So, if you are an expertise in those areas, more than likely, you’ll probably get hired by someone who needs work done and is willing to pay for your services.

Cons about Elance

It can be stressful bidding on jobs with so many employers in search for cheaper labor. Although, you might have bid a small amount, there is always someone who is desperate for the job and will bid an even lower amount to get the job.  In addition, many Elance workers are from other countries and what they might consider high amount, we who are in the U.S. would consider the amount to be under minimum wage.   I have never worked with this website. However, I know this can happen because I am a music expert on a website called LivePerson where clients contact me if they are interested in my profile.  There were times where I had to persuade my clients to choose me based on my skills.  Since this can be a problem, it’s imperative that you have a very good portfolio!  You definitely need to create an awesome and powerful profile so people will be tempted to hire you first instead of finding the cheapest way to get their work done.

What type of jobs can I get at Elance?

At Elance, you can get paid by the hour or get paid per project.

How Can I Be Sure I will Get Paid?

Elance guarantees payment through their escrow system, so you can do your work in peace.
